Photobooks #3

My list of recommended titles keeps getting longer…

From apocalyptic representations of drought and fire-ravaged landscapes to intimate yet haunting portraits of young parenthood, Oculi’s 10 multi-award winning photographers vividly explore the intersection of the human condition and the urban and rural environment in Australia and beyond.

This superbly produced book features works from Australia’s leading photographers including Donna Bailey, Tamara Dean, Dean Sewell and Jeremy Piper. A powerful photographic study of our time.  I have had this title on my wishlist for a while now and hopefully will be picking up a copy next week.

Olafur Eliasson: Inner City Out documents the artist’s first project in Berlin, where he has lived and worked for many years. Designed for the Martin-Gropius-Bau, and curated by Daniel Birnbaum, it examines the relationship between the museum and the city, bridging the two through ephemeral installations placed in various locations throughout the city as well as within the museum itself.

Although Olafur is known as an installation artist, his work often encompasses a photographic quality with photography used as a medium to document the work.
